"Confidence is Beauty" - 3 Ways to be More Confident

"Confidence is Beauty" - 3 Ways to be More Confident

Learning how to be comfortable in your own skin is an ongoing practice. Somedays it's easy to feel as confident as Beyonce (yes queen!). Other days it can be hard to get dressed and out of bed, much less feel capable of conquering your day. Because cultivating confidence is a learned skill, even those who struggle with it (newsflash - we ALL do)  can work on getting better. Here are three changes you can make to help foster confidence and self-acceptance.

1) Invest in clothing that helps you shine.
True beauty is only skin deep, but what covers your skin also matters. When you feel comfortable in your clothing, it's easier to feel comfortable in your own body. Stop caring about the number on clothing tags (they mean nothing anyway) and focus on buying items that fit well, reflect your personal style and make you feel beautiful. The power of clothing to help us feel a certain way is magical, but it only works if you let it.
Purge your closet of anything that restricts your movement, makes it hard for you to walk or simply doesn't scream "YOU" at wherever you are in your life right now. Even if you are down to three tops that really make you feel like a million bucks, it's worth it to be at ease in your clothing and focused on letting your confidence radiate. Check out these Strawberry Revolution best sellers if you need some inspiration on comfy, positive options to fill your closet back up with.

2) Find one way to move your body that you absolutely LOVE.
If you don't move it, you lose it. I've gone through periods in my life where I've been so busy or overwhelmed that intentionally moving my body seemed too hard. The less physically active I was, the more I felt disconnected from myself. I was achy all the time, grumpy and I stopped feeling content with my body. Because I wasn't making an effort to explore intentional movement, my physical capability and confidence tanked.
It wasn't until I stumbled into my friend's yoga class that I started to feel like myself again. The goal of practicing yoga wasn't to loose weight, judge my attendance or make me feel incapable. It was simply to move my body, stretch my limits and enjoy feeling fully aware of myself. The more you move, the more you can actually feel your body working and supporting you in every area of life. Your version of movement doesn't have to mirror anyone else's workout plan. Swimming, nature walks, dance class, crossfit, team sports - whatever it is - find it, do it and watch your confidence soar.
3) Purge your social space of negativity triggers.
Scrolling through your Instagram feed can boost your mood, or send you plummeting into a spiral of self-doubt and negativity. It's easy to get sucked into a vortex of comparison and FOMO every time a new social post goes up. Separate yourself from fictional drama, by clearing your follow list of accounts that make you feel stressed. It's not worth being Facebook friends with that girl from work if all she posts about is how awful life is.
Unfollow the Rich Kids of Instagram account if it keeps you up at night ruminating on all the things you don't have. Consume media from social influencers that keep it real and tell the truth behind the curated images you see on screen. Try a social media detox for a week and watch your productivity, self-love and social life blossom. Confidences isn't bred of comparison, rather of self-certainty. And you can't be comfortable with yourself if all your time is spent virtually living the life of someone else.
